Cotton Board taps members

WASHINGTON — Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman on Jan. 3 announced the appointment of 18 members and 18 alternate members to the Cotton Board.

The Cotton Board consists of 34 members, their alternates and one consumer advisor and is authorized by the Cotton Research and Promotion Act of 1966. Members of the board represent U.S. cotton producers and importers.

“I am pleased that these individuals have agreed to serve and provide their expertise to the program,” Veneman said.

The members and alternates named will serve a three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2007.

The reappointed members are: Larkin Martin, Courtland, AL; John Clark, Los Angeles; Aaron Barcellos, Los Banos, CA.; Werner Bieri of Buhler Quality Yarn, Maysville, GA.; A. Mark Neuman, Champaign, IL.; Jimmie Johnson, Vanduser, MO; William Ahrens, Malaga, NM; Francis Kelly, New York City; Nancy Marino, Upper Brookville, NY; Arthur James Jr., Sumter, SC; Kent Nix, Lamesa, TX; Craig Shook, Corpus Christi, TX; Kenneth Dierschke, San Angelo, TX; Peter McGrath, Plano, TX; and John Thomas, Woodinville, WA.

The reappointed alternate members are: Walter Corcoran Jr., Eufaula, AL; Richard L. Moss, Doerun, GA; Edward Dement, Sikeston, MO; Andrew Boguszewski, Basking Ridge, NJ; Larry Parker, Hobbs, NM; Dale Player, Bishopville, SC; and Larry Rice; Covington, TN.

The newly appointed members are: Van Murphy, Quitman, GA; Robert Robbins, Altus, OK; and Willie German Jr., Somerville, TN.

The newly appointed alternate members are: Helena Gadison, Springdale, AR; Mark Hansen, Hanford, CA; Robert Miller, Wellington, KS; Yvonne Anderson, Minneapolis, MN; James Danahy, Greensboro, NC; Mathew Gluckson, White Plains, NY; Arlene Eastwood, Jackson, NJ; Theodore Sattler, Chappaqua, NY; Jackie Burris, Wellman, TX; Debra Barrett, Edroy, TX; and Jeffery Posey, Roby, TX.

The cotton research and promotion program is designed to advance the position of cotton in the marketplace.

The program is funded by a mandatory assessment on all domestically produced cotton and imports of foreign-produced cotton and cotton-containing products.
